Cricket: The West Indies defeated Ireland by 5 wickets by Duckworth-Lewis rule in the third ODI at Granada. Ireland was reduced to 203 runs in 49.1 overs playing first. Due to rain, a target of 197 runs in 47 overs was put in front of the West Indies.
The Caribbean team achieved this target by losing 5 wickets in 36.2 overs. Evin Lewis was adjudged Man of the Match for his century and the man of the series for scoring the highest 208 runs in 3 matches.
Earlier, West Indies won the toss and decided to bowl. Ireland did not have a good start and lost just 3 wickets for 51 runs.
In the middle order, captain Andy Balbarney handled the innings and took the score to 150. He scored 71 off 93 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes.
After this, in the lower order, Andy McBrien played the unbeaten innings of 25 runs off 22 balls and brought the team score to 200. For West Indies, Hayden Walsh took 4 for 36 and Oshen Thomas took 3 for 41.
Due to the rain, the West Indies got a revised target of 197 runs. Sunil Ambris and Shai Hope returned to the pavilion after scoring 6-6.
However, Evin Lewis remained at one end and put his team to victory by scoring a century. He scored 102 off just 97 balls with the help of 6 fours and 5 sixes. Nicholas Pooran remained unbeaten on 43 runs.
With this victory, the West Indies won the 3-match ODI series 3–0. The West Indies have won a bilateral ODI series at their home for the first time since 2014. The T20 series will now be held between the two teams.
