Cricket: Bangladesh has announced their 14-man squad for the first Test to be played against Pakistan in Rawalpindi from 7 February. The Bangladesh team has the return of veteran batsman Tamim Iqbal along with Najmul Hossain Shanto, Soumya Sarkar and Rubel Hossain, while Mustafizur Rahman has been shown the way out of the team.
Mushfiqur Rahim, one of Bangladesh’s most experienced batsmen, had already agreed to visit Pakistan, so he has not found a place in the team.
On the other hand, due to injury, Imrul Kayes, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehdi Hasan, Taskeen Ahmed, and Shadman Islam have not found a place in the team.
Significantly, Tamim Iqbal has returned to the Test team after almost a year, while Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Rubel Hossain have also returned to the Test team after a long time.
Soumya Sarkar did not get a place in the team in the two-match Test series against India and he too has returned to the team after about 6 months.
Bangladesh lost the three-match T20 series 2–0 against Pakistan in January and will now leave for Rawalpindi on Tuesday for the first match of the Test series to be played under the ICC Test Championships.
Due to PACL, the second match of the Test series will be played in April. Apart from this, the only ODI between the two teams will also be played in April.
After the first Test against Pakistan, Bangladesh will play a three-match ODI and a two-match T20 series against Zimbabwe apart from the only Test, which will be played in Bangladesh itself.
