The Australian team has been announced for the T20 and ODI series against South Africa. Legendary all-rounder Glenn Maxwell returns in both teams. Significantly, Maxwell decided to take an indefinite break from cricket in October 2019, but then he returned to the Big Bash League and performed well there.
Three changes have been made to Australia’s 14-man ODI squad. Ashton Turner, Darcy Short, and Peter Handscomb have been eliminated from the squad that toured India in January, replacing Maxwell with Matthew Wade and Mitchell Marsh.
Wade and Mitchell Marsh performed well in the Big Bash League and that is why they got a place in the team. However, Marcus Stoinis did not find a place in both teams despite his best performance in the Big Bash League.
Australia will begin their South Africa tour with the T20 series, with the first match being played in Johannesburg on 21 February, the second match in Port Elizabeth on 23 February and the third match in Cape Town on 26 February.
After the T20 series, a three-match ODI series will be played between the two teams, with the first match being played at Paarl on 29 February, the second match at Bloemfontein on 4 March and the third and final match at Potchefstroom on 7 March.
