England beat Ireland by 6 wickets in the first ODI match played at Southampton to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Ireland’s team batting first was reduced to 172 runs and England lost the score by 4 wickets in the 28th over. David Wiley was adjudged Player of the Match for his lethal bowling.
Earlier, England won the toss and decided to bowl first. Harry Tactor and Curtis Camper made their debut for Ireland.
Ireland had a very poor start and could not survive the dangerous bowling of David Willey. The Ireland team lost half the team on a score of just 28.

In this, Willy took 4 wickets, while Saqib Mahmood got one wicket. Ireland captain Andy Balburney (3), Paul Sterling (2), and debuting Harry Tector (0) flopped.
However, Curtis Kafer, who was making his debut after this, first shared a 51-run partnership with Kevin O’Brien (22) and then a 66-run partnership with Andy McBrine (40), bringing the team’s score to close to 150.
Camper played a brilliant half-century in his very first match. He scored 59 * runs in 118 balls with the help of 4 fours. Meanwhile, Ireland was reduced to 172 in 44.4 overs. Kaffer became the third player to score a half-century in Ireland’s debut.

However, captain Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings shared an unbeaten partnership of 94 runs to give the team a stunning victory by 6 wickets in 27.5 overs.
Sam Billings scored 67 * off 54 balls with 11 fours, while Morgan scored 36 * off 40 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. For Ireland, Craig Young took 2, then Andy McBrine and Curtis Camper took one wicket each.
